Drafting

Drafting 1 & 2 - Online Through Surry Community College

This course introduces students to the use of simple and complex graphic tools used to communicate and understand ideas and concepts found in the areas of architecture, manufacturing, engineering, science and mathematics.  Topics include business meeting skills and goal setting strategies, classical representation methods such as sketching, geometric construction techniques, CAD, orthographic projection, and dimensioning.

Online Classes

Students who participate in drafting at Elkin High School will have the drafting class online through Surry Community College (SCC).  SCC will provide an instructor for this course and students who complete the course with a passing grade will obtain college credit as well as high school credit.  Furthermore, it is important that parents and students both know that taking this course does affect their college Grade Point Average.  The final grade a student recieves in this course will show up on their college transcript.  However, this is a great opportunity for students to leave high school already having college credit.

Online Instructors

Online instructors teach via the computer and are not actually on the campus of the school.  There is a facilitator that the school provides to help the student with contacting their professor and to oversee the classroom equipment.  It is up to the students to turn in assignments based on posted assignment dates given by the instructor.  Online courses can be very independent courses in which the students are responsible for their work, quizzes, and test.  All grades given are provided by the college instructor.
